But unlike all that content that was cut, relationships for the movies were simply changed rather than being removed altogether, which uniquely allows for analyzation of what actually went wrong by looking at where the two versions of the same story branch apart. While romance is certainly still present in the movies, to many, the way that love is presented falls short of the expectations set by the books. Outside the many cut plot lines, characters, and odd portrayal of Dumbledore beyond the first two movies, one particularly disappointing aspect of the films that many fans have come to realize is the lack of any satisfying love stories that were present in the books. As time has gone on, however, cracks have begun to show in this once-beloved franchise, which as of late has found itself embroiled in controversy, and people have started taking a closer look at the movies they once praised so highly. The books were a cultural phenomenon, the movies were received with universal audience acclaim, and even the recently released Hogwarts Legacy broke Twitch viewing records in its first day alone (per CNN), and has already outpaced sales of last year's game of the year. Harry Potter is a franchise that has proved its popularity time and again.
